The UKMAMS Association was formed on 1st June 1991. The formation of the Association followed many requests by those who had served with UKMAMS or Near East Air Force (NEAF), the Far East Air Force (FEAF) and the Middle East Air Forces  (MEAF) Mobile Air Movements Squadrons or sections.

The objectives of the Association as laid out in it's constitution are:

  • To promote the efficiency of the RAF by:

Maintaining contact between past and present members of UKMAMS, fostering mutual friendship between them and providing for social gatherings for them.

Fostering esprit de corps, comradeship and the welfare of those serving with UKMAMS and preserving it's traditions.

  • For the relief of past and present members and their dependants either generally or individually, such persons being in conditions of need, hardship or distress.

The Association has it's own Council of 10 elected Full members. In addition there are 5 ex-officio posts. The council is re-elected at the AGM.

Membership

There 3 types of membership available.

  • Full Membership

Full membership of the Association is open to all current members of 1 Air Movements Wing and those current or past members of the RAF who served with 1 AMW or with UKMAMS, NEAF, FEAF, Gulf and AFME Mobile Air Movements Squadrons or sections.

  • Associate Membership

Associate membership may be offered to persons who would not normally qualify for membership providing the following conditions are fulfilled:

  1. A Full member who will be required to present a written case in support of the proposal to the Council must propose an Associate member.

  2. A Full member other than the proposer must second the proposal.

  3. All proposals for Associate membership are to be presented at the AGM for ratification.

  • Honorary Membership

Members of the Association or other individuals, who, in the opinion of the Council, have given particular valued, prolonged or exceptional services to the Association, may be invited to become Honorary members. This may or may not incur membership fees.

Social Events

The Association holds regular "Meet and Greet" evenings. These are normally held 2/3 months either in Swindon or at the MAMS Bar at Lyneham. They are popular with members to pull up a sandbag, swing the odd lamp and share a beer.

Every year, UKMAMS hold their Sqn open day to which Association members are invited. This is normally combined with the Association AGM.

Details of all social events are published in "Team Brief"

Team Brief

The Association publishes it's own quarterly magazine, "Team Brief". The magazine acts as a means of informing members of the latest news from UKMAMS and forth coming events.

There are a few sample articles taken from recent issues of "Team Brief" on this site. By joining the Association, you will get the full magazine, 4 times a year.

Unfortunately it is not possible to publish "Team Brief" on the internet for a couple of reasons.

  • Some articles and information especially concerning recent and ongoing Ops / Exercises is not meant for view by the world at large.

  • All Association members pay for the magazine through their subscriptions.

  • Although you are reading this page through the WWW, not everyone has access or the inclination to ever use the Internet.

Back issues of Team Brief are now available for download from this site.

Currently   Autumn 2004  is the only issue available. More will be posted as time goes on. You can either read the issue online by left clicking on the link or save it to your computer by right clicking and selecting "save as."

Please bear in mind that the issues are quite large (approx 2Mb) and may take a while to download. They are in the Acrobat format.

Download the free Acrobat Reader software to read the issues.

Looking for someone?

The Association holds records on around 900 members. So if you have lost contact with someone you served with on MAMS, the chances are that we have his address. We will not give out personal details though. We will let the person know that you are trying to contact them and then it is up to them.
