Angola Sep 1975

Starting on the 8th September 1975 UKMAMS provided movements facilities in support of the VC10 which, was used to fly refugees out of Angola. Fl Lt Len Henry positioned at Luanda with FS Terry Alfonso and 4 RAF Police; the latter provided passenger flight security. Flt Lt Mike Perks positioned at Lisbon, the reception airfield. Flt Lt Henry was relieved after 5 weeks by Flt Lt Mike Thomas. Flt Lt Gordon Townsend took over from Flt Lt Thomas until the end of the airlift on 1st November 1965. 

Flt Lt Jerry Babbington relieved Flt Lt Perks in Lisbon after 4 weeks.

A total of 42 flights were used to evacuate 5707 passengers.
