Operations and Disaster Relief

Since their  formation, MAMS team's have been heavily involved in any Operation that have required British forces to be deployed. The other area that the Sqn has been heavily tasked in support of are disaster relief operations. The Sqn does not get much coverage in the press during these task, there are more 'glamorous' units to report on. However,  UKMAMS moved far more grain in a longer time than the air drops achieved. It is more interesting to see air drops than men carrying sacks of grain.

And yet, without MAMS, it is difficult to see how an Operational deployment or Disaster relief could succeed or happen without undue delay.

In 1994, the RAF PR magazine published an article by Gp Capt DKL McDonnell about the way that humanitarian airlifts are planned and organised.

If there are any Operations missing or you can tell a story about your involvement in the Op, please send the details to me or to the Team Brief editor so we can publish your story
